Do I still need the NHS App?

NHS App | Patient Access | BLINX

Overview

As the NHS moves towards utilising technology to help GPs and Patients communicate much faster, and easier – we understand it can become confusing to know when to use each app/service. We hope this page will provide you with more information for when it’s best to use

NHS App & BLINX

The most common apps/services will be the NHS App, Patient Access and the BLINX Online Consultation service.

Please see below the different between the two and when to use either service by clicking on the two different options:

NHS App & Patient Access

The NHS app and Patient Access app are both the easiest and quickest way to view your medical records. You can do the following things:

  • Repeat Medication: This is the easiest/quickest way to request repeat medication, you can then track when it has been approved and sent to the pharmacy. You can quickly tick what medication you require, instead of manually filling this out via BLINX.
  • View your medical record: This includes test results, consultations and documents
  • View Appointments: You can use the NHS and/or Patient Access app to quickly view upcoming hospital appointments and referrals.
  • Receive Messages: GP practice and hospitals can send you communication via either app e.g. appointment changes, important/general info
  • Nominated Pharmacy: If you would like to change your nominated pharmacy, this can be quickly done via either app
  • Access other NHS Services

Non-urgent advice: Please note:

You cannot book appointments or send messages to your practice through the NHS app or Practice Access.

Blinx Online Consultation

BLINX is our new online consultation platform. You can use BLINX to contact the practice to request numerous things such as:

  • Appointments: You will be asked to fill out a form to let the GP know what you need the appointment for. They will then use the information provided on the form, to let you know when/how to book a routine appointment. You may alternatively be asked to come into the surgery On the Day, and if so will be contacted by a receptionist to book.
  • Admin Requests: If you would like to request letters, insurance/forms to be completed, and/or copy of your medical record etc
  • Repeat Prescriptions: You will also be able to request your medications via BLINX, again using an online form to submit. You will need to type all your medications, dosage, quantity on this form and the submit this.
  • Test Results: You can request a copy of your test results via a BLINX admin request.
  • Book a Smear test: If you are due a smear test you will be able to book this via BLINX.
  • Request a Sick Certificate: You can use a BLINX form to request a sick certificate if you have been off work due to illness for more than 7 days.

Non-urgent advice: Repeat Prescriptions & Test Results

If your medication is on repeat it is actually quicker to do this within the NHS app or Patient Access and you can tick the medication required, and track its status/progress.

Similarly, if you would like a copy of your test results, you can easily and quickly view this within the NHS app.
